Follow the adventures and misadventures of Penny, a 14-year-old African American girl who's doing her best to navigate through the early years of teen-dom. Penny's every encounter inevitably spirals into bigger than life situations filled with hi-jinks, hilarity and heart. Her quest to balance her home, school and social lives are further complicated by friends like the sassy Dijonay, Penny's nemesis LaCienega Boulevardez, her loving, if not over-protective parents and her hip-to-the-groove-granny, Suga Mama.

Penny thinks she's made the cheerleading squad, but arch rival LaCienega Boulevardez shows up and ruins everything, so Penny enlists the thuggish Gross sisters to help--but they make matters worse.

Penny leads her peers in a strike against their parents. The kids refuse to do their chores until they receive a cost-of-living raise.

While Oscar and Trudy are away at an awards banquet, Penny throws a giant party complete with loud music and boys.

Penny befriends a magician's pet tiger when she begrudgingly takes part in Take Your Daughter to Work Day.

Penny's crush on a new boy at school has repercussions beyond her wildest dreams when she helps promote his music-sharing Web site.

Oscar pushes Penny to enter a spelling bee so that he can vicariously relive his own glory days; and Suga Mama goes shopping with the twins.

Penny's efforts to impress a boy at school land her on the football team; and Oscar develops a new snack food called jelly poppers.

Penny breaks her father's no-dating rule when she goes to the amusement park and pairs up with a boy named Carlos. Elsewhere, her parents go on a double date to a day spa.

Penny's grades fall victim to a long-time grudge held between her teacher Ms. Dinkins and Suga Mama; Oscar and Trudy enroll the twins in a private preschool.

Penny is entrusted with her very own credit card, which she plans on using responsibly, but it seems to have a mind of its own. Oscar, meanwhile, nearly spends his family out of house and home in his attempt to catch a mouse.
